Geoffrey Pyatt is Senior Managing Director of the Energy and Critical Minerals practice at McLarty Associates, an Ankura company, and a distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council's Global Energy Center. He joined the firm following a 35-year career in the United States Foreign Service, during which he held a series of senior diplomatic leadership positions and was nominated to the rank of Career Ambassador, the highest rank in the US Foreign Service.

From 2022 to 2025 he served as US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, acting as the United States' chief energy diplomat. In that role he led international efforts to support Ukraine's energy resilience and to counter the weaponization of Russian energy resources, and directed negotiations with US allies and partners on energy security partnerships and critical minerals agreements.

He previously served as US Ambassador to Greece from 2016 to 2022, spanning three presidential administrations, and as US Ambassador to Ukraine from 2013 to 2016, where he led the US response to Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine and received the State Department's Robert Frasure Memorial Award. Earlier assignments included Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, where he represented the United States before the International Atomic Energy Agency, and postings in India, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Honduras, as well as service on the National Security Council staff.

Geoffrey Pyatt holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, Irvine, and a master's degree in international relations from Yale University. His awards include the Presidential Meritorious Service Award and the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He serves on the international advisory board of Excelerate Energy and the board of directors of the US-India Business Council, and is a member of Business Executives for National Security and the Partnership to Address Global Emissions.
